2019 Reading Challenges

It’s that time of year when your girl here decides how to challenge herself. And challenge myself I will, because this year is going to be big. I have a feeling about this. Or it just may be my cold that is speaking. I am planning on doing a few things differently, I want to really challenge myself with my reading, so I’ve decided to sign up to a few reading challenges that are going to do just that.

Let’s start.

Reading Challenges 2019 Master List
2019 Audiobook Challenge

The 2019 Audiobook Challenge is hosted by Melanie @ Hot Listens and Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer. Since I discovered audiobooks this year, thanks to the Read Me Romance Podcast, and I also discovered the joy of listening to the audiobook while reading the physical book thanks to Sam and Kal, so I’m signing up to this reading challenge. There are 7 levels, and I’m aiming towards 24 30 50 books, so I’m picking the level called Binge Listener My Precious Marathoner .

Edited: Since in January I read 5 audiobooks out of 24, I decided to raise my level and I’m aiming for 40 audiobooks.

The Family Tree Reading Challenge is hosted by Becky from Becky’s Book Reviews and I am very excited to participate in this challenge. The rules are pretty simple, and you can pick from three different categories of challenges. I picked the third one, and that means I have to read books from the birth year of the family member I chose. I chose my great-grandfather, who passed away a little over ten years ago. He was a true hero for me, he was my grandaddy, and I still miss him. He was born in 1918 and I’ve picked three books that were published in that year. I am very excited to read these books.

BOOKS READ:

  1. The Beast in the Cave by H.P. Lovecraft

Romanceopoly 2019 Participant
Romance-opoly is hosted by the ladies from Under The Covers and Jessica from Peace Love Books. I love romance, I love Monopoly, and when I found out there’s a reading challenge that puts those two together I knew I had to sign up. There are two ways to play this game, and I’m going to pick The Scenic Route, because I want to avoid the perils of a reading slump. As for the levels, I figure that since the highest one has only 39 books, I can do this. So I’m going to pick The Native. I haven’t yet decided on all of the books I want to read yet, but I will do that in about a day or so and I’ll put them in a dedicated GR shelf.

BOOKS READ:

  1. Merry and Bright by Debbie Macomber

1 / 39 books. 3% done!

The Beat The Backlist challenge is hosted by Austine @ NovelKnight. My track record with reading backlist books is kind of bad, especially when I put them in a dedicated shelf. When I see them on that list, it’s like my brain freezes and I get this…let’s call it urge, to just ignore the list. Since I do have a ton of backlist books I want to read, I thought I’d change things up and instead of making up a long list of books I’ll likely ignore in 2019, like I did in my previous two years of signing up for this challenge, I’ll commit to reading at least 24 backlist books. That gives me 2 books a month from the older books I own, either on my physical shelves, or on my various reading apps. Of course, I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t say I hoped to read the books I had on my BTB list this year, so I’m going to try my best to one backlist book from my GR shelf and one that isn’t there. I’m also going to sign up as a proud member of the Ravenclaw team for this challenge.

BOOKS READ:

  1. Cross Breed by Lora Leigh
  2. Nauti Angel by Lora Leigh
  3. The Final Score by Jaci Burton
  4. Saving Hope by Margaret Daley
  5. Love Only Once by Johanna Lindsey
  6. From Lukov with Love by Mariana Zapata
  7. Born, Darkly by Trisha Wolfe
  8. Priest by Sierra Simone
  9. Merry and Bright by Debbie Macomber
  10. A Holiday by Gaslight by Mimi Matthews

This challenge was created by Emily@Falling for YA, then moved to Katrina@Bookish Things & More (site no longer available) and now it resides at Reading Between the Pages.

As you all know, I have a bit of a problem with requesting books from Netgalley and Edelweiss. I have way too many overdue ARCs that I need to read, more so than I dare to count or say out loud. I also want to get to that 80% ratio this year, so I’m going to work hard to get there before December 2019. There are five levels to choose from, and I’m going to start slow and manageable, so I’ll start with Silver, which means I’ll plan to read about 25 books. Hopefully I’ll graduate to higher levels as the time passes, but we’ll see. I’m also putting a rule of my own in this challenge: the books I’m going to read have all been requested and received before January 1st 2019. I know we can count anything, but I want to make sure I actually move forward with my goals, instead of backwards or being stuck around the same ratio even if I get to read the 25 books I plan on reading.

BOOKS READ:

  1. A Holiday by Gaslight by Mimi Matthews
  2. Nauti Angel by Lora Leigh
  3. The Final Score by Jaci Burton
  4. Saving Hope by Margaret Daley

This challenge is hosted by Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction and Shannon @ It Starts at Midnight and it’s been a challenge that I’ve signed up for the last two years. I have had fun being challenged to write more discussion posts, and I have some cool ideas for 2019, so I’m going to sign up again this year. As with previous years, there are 5 levels. I’m aiming for 24 – 25 discussion posts, so I’m going to again sign up for the Chatty Kathy level.

  1. Wednesday Chatter: How I Fell In Love With Audiobooks
  2. Wednesday Chatter: Why I Started Using The HTML Editor Instead Of The Text Editor
  3. Wednesday Chatter: 5 Books Most Out Of My Comfort Zone I’ve Ever Read
  4. Wednesday Chatter: Ratings, Reviews, and Drama
  5. Wednesday Chatter: Musings About ARCs And ARC Bans
  6. Wednesday Chatter: 5 Things I Want To Read About

6 / 24 posts. 25% done!

Not listed: the yearly Goodreads Challenge. I plan on setting the challenge for 200 books, but I’m waiting for January 1st to put it up on this page.

I’m going to keep the possibility open for signing up to the New Authors Reading Challenge if the gals from Literary Escapism will host the challenge, if not I’ll set up a personal challenge for myself. I’m also going to keep my eyes open for any readathons I will participate in, like the Smutathon one if Riley and Lainey will host it.

Let’s talk. Are there any reading challenges you’re signing up for in 2019?
